Weekend Wines
This weekend I am presenting 3 wines from Mandrarossa in
Sicily and a Spanish red.
Fiano, Mandrarossa, Sicily. Brilliant
pale yellow with hints of green, a bouquet of ripe tropical
fruits and citrus aromas.
Medium-bodied and dry with elegant balance. The fruit and
citrus aromas on the nose evolve on the palate in an array
of fruit flavors. $7.99
Chardonnay, Mandrarossa, Sicily.
A generous style of wine, with ripe tropical fruit flavours
and a balanced, rounded finish. $7.99
Cabernet Sauvignon-Shiraz, Mandrarossa,
Sicily. A complex bouquet of cherries and black currants
interwoven with aromas of spices and herbs. Generous blackberry
and currant aromas are supported by a firm, rounded tannic
structure with balanced acidity and a hint of vanilla oak.
Well matched with red meats, hearty casseroles and flavorful
cheeses. $7.99
Carles Priorat, Spain. A blend
of Carignan, Garnacha, and Syrah from the granite and slate
laiden soils of Gratallops in fabled Priorat. With the unmistakable
tapicity of Priorat the layered fruits, herbs, and minerality
are worth twice the price. $15.99
Weekend Beers
Monty Python Holy Grail Ale, has a distinctive
taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured
with a dry and refreshing bitterness. $2.19
Smuttynose Old Brown Dog, New Hampshire.
Old Brown Dog has been cited as a classic example of the
"American Brown Ale" style of beer. Compared to
a typical English Brown Ale, Old Brown Dog is fuller-bodied
and more strongly hopped. $2.19
Old Leghumper Porter, Ohio. A
robust porter, dark brown in color and full bodied with
a malty sweet taste. Deep roasted, yet silky smooth! Two
types of roasted malts, including deep-roasted chocolate
malt, are used to give this porter a rich, chocolaty taste.
$2.49
Stone Smoked Porter, San Diego.
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee
overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right
amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke"
in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather
than being THE character. $5.99
