Fresh Bread
This Saturday morning, I will be bringing in a small number
(20) of fresh baguettes. How fresh? They come out of the
oven at 10 and go on sale the minute I get to the store!
I am getting them from another small, family run business
up in Winchester, the Sunset Bakery. I hope that this is
the beginning of a long term, profitable partnership.
Picnic Baskets
In order for the idea of picnic lunches to catch on, I
am making the following offer while supplies last:
* Fresh baguette
* 3 oz package of pre-sliced Sorpressata
* .5 lb of Quicke's English Cheddar
* any bottle of wine listed at $9.99
All for 15% off the listed price! $22.99 plus sales tax!
Oil
Pumpkin Seed Oil!
Yes, exactly.
A very hard to find delicacy from Austria, where the healthy
properties attributed to it verge on the miraculous. The
seeds of a certain variety of pumpkin are toasted and pressed
like olives. The result is - impressive. The thick, iodine
color takes on the hue of bohemian green glass when it spreads
out over the food. The perfume is unique, complex, and nutty.
The taste is big enough to accompany more complex foods.
I will be featuring it this weekend, but haven't decided
yet what to do.
White Truffle Oil
I have brought the white truffle oil back. The quickest,
easiest, and most economical way to truffle anything from
pasta to steaks to mashed potatoes.
The wines of Sicily!
Mandrarossa, Fiano, Sicily. Produced by the renowned Settesoli
winery in Menfi (southwestern Sicily), Mandrarossa is the
largest wine collective on the island. Fiano is an autochthonous
grape from the island. A complex aromatic, dry wine, with
lively citrus fruit character on the nose and the palate,
and well balanced fruit flavors, this wine would be a good
choice for the picnic basket mentioned above. $9.99
Feudo Principi di Butera, Insolia, Sicily. A crisp and
luminous golden straw yellow with light greenish reflectionswhite
of medium intensity with a pretty ensemble of stone fruit,
pineapple, cut greens and white stone. Rich and harmonious
with delicate scents of sweet almonds, it coats the mouth,
yet has enough acidity to keep it clean. $16.99
Feudo Arancio, Syrah, Sicily. The only non autochthonous
wine from Sicily this weekend. Originally from the Middle
East, Syrah (Shiraz is the capital of the province of Fars
in Iran, Syrah is French form.) is now renowned worldwide,
especially in regions with hotter climates. A wine characterised
by a unique bite accompanied by hints of chocolate and liquorice
and a bouquet of ripe wild-berries. $10.99
Feudo Principi di Butera, Nero d' Avola, Sicily. A brilliant
deepish ruby red with a full and persistent bouquet, which
displays scents of almond. Dry, well-structured and full,
it displays a complex fruitiness. $16.99
